TRANSFER OF ALLOTMENTS IN SUTTON COLDFIELD FROM BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL TO ROYAL SUTTON COLDIFIELD TOWN COUNCIL The creation of the Sutton Coldfield Town Council in 2016 brought with it a change of some landownership, governance and management responsibilities. One of these areas is Allotments and the land they occupy. Schedule 29 of the Local Government Act 1972(9)(1) and Article 12 of the Birmingham City Council (Reorganisation of Community Governance) Order 2016 refers. Covid-19 has hindered this progress but the transfer is now in the process of taking place and it is hoped that this will be completed within the next 12 months. Some committee members have met with the officers concerned and we do not expect there to be any changes in the running of the allotments in the short term. It is a work in progress and the committee will keep everyone informed as details are given to us. Meanwhile it is business as usual. Forge Farm Allotment Association Committee |

WALSALL ROAD WINS FIGHT!WALSALL ROAD ALLOTMENTS were under threat of closure because of the 2022 Commonwealth Games but the council has now confirmed that the allotment will remain in its present location. The news of the win comes after a successful media campaign was launched which indluced a petition boasting more than 15,000 signatures, and a 'Robert the Allotment Cat' twitter page which highlighted the potential plight of the seven resident cats. The result is a great one all round! |
WATERING CROPS!Bleak Hill Allotments Association have shared a document with us which gives a guide to watering crops during the dry season. The document was issued by the National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners Ltd.

Response to B’ham CC’s Consultation on Langley (housing) & Peddimore (commercial) developments. Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD’s). The Consultation documents are available online at https://www.birminghambeheard.org.uk/economy/langley-and-peddimore-spds Two separate documents have been published; one for each scheme. These documents will form the framework for later Planning Applications by the Developers so this is your last chance to voice your views on the outline proposals. We cannot stop the developments (that battle is lost) but we can try to minimise the adverse effects on Walmley and Minworth – so constructive comments are requested. Can these outline proposals be improved by your local knowledge?
The WRA have drawn attention to these proposals and the consultations at our Saturday morning “Information table” set up outside Walmley Post Office for the past two weeks. We are also holding Open Meetings at Sutton Coldfield Rugby Club (Walmley Road), starting at 7.30pm on:- Wednesday 26 September and on Wednesday 10 October. Please come along to hear unbiased comments and discuss your views on these proposals – consultations end on 22 October 2018. Have your say before the SPD’s are adopted (end of 2018). 22/09/18. |
LOCAL, LOVING, LOOKING OUT FOR CATS
CARING FOR CATS ALL YEAR ROUND – NEUTERING, FOSTERING, REHOMING
We are a local-to-Birmingham charity, self-funded, established in 1999. And well-respected for our work in neutering, rescuing and rehoming abandoned and needy cats and kittens. But (there’s always a but!) - we always need more funds, more volunteers and fosterers, and more bric-a-brac for our fundraising events. So please help if you can.
